Mrs. Mary Kate Stovall was the very first librarian I've ever known (Way before I knew what a funeral home was) When our class went to the library it was a sacred event. We quickly learned not to socialize and talk above a whisper. As she would quietly put her right index finger over her lips with a "Shhhh...." So many books to explore. When we said, 'Liberry' she politely corrected us with a speech lesson in blending, " No, the word is Li-bra-ry." Thank you. (I've made that correction at least a thousand times with children and students). I've never seen her shout or yell at anyone. Just her presence was enough to command her respect and attention. Outside of school I got to know the funeral director who so respectfully attended and laid away our deceased loved ones. Oh so sweet and reverent. When I think of home in Hurtsboro, one person looms large in my heart, mind and memory is Mrs. Stovall.
With love and respect.
Always,
