Robert “Toog” Marion was born March 29, 1933, in Hurtsboro, Alabama, to the late David Marion, Sr., and Hattie Coleman Marion. He confessed Christ as his personal savior early in life and joined the Hurts Chapel A.M.E. Church where he served faithfully until his health failed.
Robert was a member of The Spiritual Aires Gospel Singers of Hurtsboro, Alabama for over 60 years. He was one of few Barbers in Hurtsboro where he cut hair for years. He attended Russell County Training School and worked for A.B. Carroll Lumber Company in Hurtsboro until he retired. He was also employed as a construction worker in Cottonton, Alabama, and as a truck driver for Tuskegee Ready Mix Concrete in Tuskegee, Alabama.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Eva Brown Marion, stepmother Pearlie Marion, two brothers, David Marion and Willie Smith, Sr., and two sisters, Sallie Hyatt and Rosie Marion.
Robert leaves to cherish his memories six daughters: Jananne Brown (James) or Marietta, Georgia; Ninetta McAlpine of Alabaster, Alabama; Dorothy Apsey (James) of Columbus, Georgia; Charlotte Sanks (William) of Columbus, Georgia; Tracy Gardner (Kelvin) and Regenia Marion of Marietta, Georgia; son, Barry Marion (Jannina) of Fort Mitchell, Alabama; brother, David Marion, Jr. (Pearl) of Knoxville, Tennessee; Sister-in-law, Odester Nehege (Kalu) of Douglasville, Georgia; a devoted and loving friend, Annie Collis; 12 grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
