Her Life and Legacy
Mary L. Leonard was born on August 25, 1940, in Hurtsboro, Alabama, to the late George and Mattie Cooper. She accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Boromville A.M.E. Zion Church. Later, she moved her membership to Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Hurtsboro, Alabama, where she remained a faithful member.
Mary was a dedicated worker at Wayne Farms in Union Springs, where she contributed her skills and energy for many years. Her hard work, strength, and unwavering faith served as a shining example to her family and friends.
On January 24, 2025, at the age of 84, our beloved Mary Leonard peacefully transitioned from this earthly life to receive her heavenly reward.
Treasured Memories
Mary L. Leonard was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Thomas Leonard, Sr.; her four sons: Thomas George Leonard, Jr., Harrison Leonard, Willard Leonard, and Arthur Leonard; five sisters: Lizzie Tolbert, Effie Lee Ousley, Rebecca Hubbard, Rejulia Fox, and Claron Johnson; and five brothers: BC Cooper, Willie Cooper, Ike Cooper Sr., Tommy Cooper, and George Cooper Jr.
Mary leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. Those who will forever honor her include: her devoted daughter, Rosie (James) Smith, and her loyal son, Rodney Leonard, both of Hurtsboro, Alabama; her loving brother, Charlie Cooper, and caring sisters: Carrie (Raymond) Files of Birmingham, Alabama, and Ethel Weaver and Annie Johnson, both of Wabasso, Florida, her sister in law, Lilly Leonard of Atlanta, Georgia; 1 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Her life was one of service, love, and faith, and her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
