Obituary for Louella E. Holmes
Louella Cooper Holmes, affectionately known as “Soot,” was born August 6, 1938 to the late Josh Jackson and Mary Emma Cooper in Hurtsboro, Alabama. She departed this life on December 7, 2016, after an extended illness, at Jack Houston Memorial Hospital in Phenix City, Alabama.
At an early age she confessed Christ and joined Ross Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church in Hurtsboro. She was preceded in death by parents Josh Jackson and Mary Emma Cooper, her husband, Homer Holmes, and a son, Michael Holmes.
In 1958, she was united in holy matrimony to the late Homer Holmes. To this union four children were born. She was a devoted wife, a very loving mother, and a dear friend to all.
She leaves behind to cherish and celebrate her memories two daughters: Lynda Holmes and Alice Holmes of Phenix City, Alabama; three sons: Clarence Holmes and Daniel Holmes of Phenix City, Alabama, and Frank Holmes of Hurtsboro, Alabama; two stepdaughters: Christine Warren of Thomasville, Georgia and Lella M. Parson of Columbus, Georgia; a stepson, James E. Holmes of Columbus, Georgia; and a loving and devoted brother, Willie B. (Gussie) Harris of Safety Harbor, Florida. She leaves behind five beautiful grandchildren: Demarius Holmes of Phenix City, Alabama; Dee’Jannell Holmes of Montgomery, Alabama; Der’eon Marshall, Dallas and Dyamond McNeil of Phenix City; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
