Obituary for Josie L. Long
Josie L. Long: July 7, 1940 – August 27, 2021 - Josie was born the second of twelve children to Beatrice Streeter and her father, Otis Lloyd. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Georgia Lloyd, Sammie Lloyd, James Streeter, Essie Nell Streeter, Hattie Lloyd, Willie Streeter, Elizabeth Powell, Gertrude Crymes, Josephine Banks, Otis Lloyd, Jr., Frank Lloyd, and Christine Lloyd.
She was educated in the Russell County School System. After high school, she moved to East Chicago, Indiana, where she resided for a short period. After returning to Alabama, she met and married Algie Long, Sr., and together to couple had two children, Cheryl and Algie, Jr. Josie’s life was greatly changed when her husband’s life was ended tragically while he served as a policeman for the Town of Hurtsboro.
Josie loved church and being a part of her church, as well as surrounding churches. She was frequently called upon to serve as mistress of order. She was also known throughout the area for her work as Store Clerk, Store Manager, Funeral Home Assistant, Town Council Member, and Bank Clerk. In 2013, Josie moved to Detroit, Michigan, with daughter Cheryl and Willie Cobb. Since that time, her favorite pass time was spent with her great-grandchildren, Ravion, Mar’Kayla, and “her baby” Ava.
Ms. Long leaves to cherish her memories one daughter, Cheryl (Willie) Davis, Detroit, MI; one son, Algie Long, and Lisa, of Indianapolis, IN; three granddaughters, seven great grandchildren, four sisters: Carlena S. Howard (Charles), Mittie Streeter, Carrie Sweet Ola (Lewis) Gary, and Mary Lindsey; three brothers: Leroyal Streeter (Queen), Johnny Streeter (Mildred), William Lloyd (Joyce); one favorite niece, Sara Jones, and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
