Obituary for Gertrude Crymes
Sister Gertrude Crymes passed away on Monday, September 9, 2019. She was born August 22, 1937 in Russell County, Alabama, to Otis and Louise Lloyd. Early in life she joined the First Missionary Baptist Church in Hurtsboro, Alabama and served faithfully there until she moved to East Chicago, Indiana. There she served in the Usher Ministry at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, East Chicago, until she retired and moved to Columbus, Georgia.
She retired from St. Margaret Hospital in Hammond, Indiana, as a Surgical Technical on the heart team. After returning to the south and settling in Columbus. Gertrude rejoined First Missionary Baptist Church and served faithfully there until her health failed.
She was preceded in death by her son James Earl Prentice, Jr; her parents, Otis and Louise Lloyd; three sisters, and two brothers.
Gertrude leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, Titanya Terri Turner; five grandchildren: ChaBounek Trudie Prentice, Sir Lawrence Turner, Terris Fredrick Turner, Ashea Monique Prentice (Quaddrus), and Jamie (Robert) Wright; four sisters: Josephine (Pastor Willie) Banks, of Hurtsboro, Alabama; Carrie Sweet of East Meadow, New York; Ola (Lewis) Gary of Opelika, Alabama; and Mary Lindsey of Columbus, Georgia; one brother, William (Joyce) Lloyd; cherished stepdaughter, Sunseahray Prentice; seven great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
