Bro. Frank Lee Smith was born on September 15, 1950 in Hurtsboro, Alabama. He was born to Frazier and Virginia Smith. He was born into a large family that was built on a foundation of faith and love. He moved into his heavenly home on Friday, May 24th after a short battle where God still received the VICTORY. He was educated in the Russell County School System, and he retired from American Steel Foundries before becoming "Smitty, The Grill Man". He met his wife and best friend, Robbie "Sharon" Barnes, after leaving home and moving to East Chicago, Indiana. Later, he and his wife would create a family and home with their children in Gary, Indiana.
He is preceded in death by both his parents, Frazier and Virginia Bell; his brothers: Otis, Jerry, Frazier Jr., Jim Henry, Arthur Lee, Willie James, Edward, Elmo; his sisters: Martha Smith, Susie Fluellen, Clara Dawson, and Hattie Smith.
Bro. Frank was a member of the male chorus at St. Mark M.B. Church prior to becoming a member of Love Feast Church of God in Christ under the pastorship of Elder Clarence Harris Sr. This is where he decided to show his faith in God by becoming re-baptized into the body of believers on April 14, 2013. Bro. Frank was a baptized believer in the Lord, Jesus the Christ, as his Savior.
Bro. Frank and his wife had five children together. They are Greg (Kimber), Tracey (David) Mackey, Ebony (Pete) Lee, Kimberly, and Matthew. Also, there is another son named LaJuane Roberson who resides in Spokane, Washington with his family. His brothers are Eddie and Joe Smith. His sisters are Beulah Martin, Ethel Moore, and Belinda Kincaid. His grandchildren are: Breanna, Tamia, Haven (Ryan), Marcella, Jeremiah, Sebastian, Kennedy, and David James.
Bro. Frank absolutely LOVED his family. He loved every niece and every nephew he had. He was especially close to his nieces and nephews by Luke and Ann: Surae, Demia, Jermond, Tasha, Devin, and Corey. He loved ALL his family a great deal. He loved spending time with his family, and he loved being at family reunions. If you had the pleasure of being in his company, you were in the presence of a calm and peaceful man.
Bro. Frank was a good neighbor and a good friend. He was pleasant and kind. He will be remembered for his peaceful nature and his loving spirit. He had a beautiful smile and a joyful laugh. Many times, he would be heard humming hymns and spirituals during times of joy and pain. Maybe this was one of the ways that he communicated with the Lord. He will be missed by everyone who ever met him.
A wonderful husband, a loving father, a good brother, a caring uncle, a fun cousin, an encouraging PaPa, a peaceful friend, a friendly neighbor...a man loved by many, and he will be missed by all.
