Mrs. Correll Dawson, the second oldest of nine children, was born on Thursday, May 27, 1943 in Hurtsboro (Russell County), Alabama to the late Andrew and Carrie Brooks. As a young girl, she attended public school in Macon County. After completing her schooling, Correll, affectionately called "Lil Sista", met and married Will Dawson ("Lil Bruh") and through this loving union, five children were born During her early childhood years, she also regularly attended church and accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior. Upon relocating and settling in East Chicago, Indiana, Correll became a member of Goodwill Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor J.E. Landers where she was a faithful servant until returning to Hurtsboro. In her hometown, she united with First Missionary Baptist Church where she was a dedicated member until her health failed. On Sunday, May 26, 2024, Correll Dawson entered eternal life-one day shy of her 81st birthday! She was affectionately called "Granny" by close family and friends. She was the "Madea" of our family. She was truly loved and will be dearly missed by all.
In addition to her loving parents, Correll was preceded in death by two sisters, Louise Williams and Johnell Tolbert; one brother, Charles Brooks; and four grandsons, Kionta, Raishawn, Deric, Jr. and Tyone.

If Roses Grow in Heaven Lord, please pick a bunch for me. Place them in my Mother's arms and tell her they're from me. Tell her that I love her and miss her, and when she turns to smile, place a kiss upon her cheek and hold her for a while. Because remembering her is easy, 1 do it every day,
but there is an ache within my heart
that will never go away. Loving Children
