Obituary for Caria "Cora" L. Sykes
Mrs. Caria "Cora" L. Sykes of Hurtsboro, Alabama, passed away on Monday, July 2, 2018 at the East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, Alabama.
Mrs. Sykes was born December 4, 1944 to Minnie and Jimmy Lee Thomas in Hurtsboro. She joined the Shady Grove A.M.E. Zion Church and was educated in the Russell County school system. As a young lady she moved to Cluessenton, Florida, where she met and married James Edward Sykes. The two were joined in holy matrimony and lived a very happy life until tragedy struck and Mr. Sykes' life came to an unexpected end. "Cora" returned to Hurtsboro to be close to family and friends and resided there until the Master called her unto eternal rest.
In addition to both parents and her husband, Mrs. Sykes was preceded in death by two sisters, Ida Thomas and Annie Lee Gideon, and three brothers: Johnny C. Thomas, J.T. Thomas, and Lucious Thomas.
She leaves to cherish precious memories: one daughter, LaShondra (Barry) S. Saxton, Hurtsboro, Alabama; three sons: Robert Thomas, Columbus, Georgia; Rickey Lemond (April) Sykes. Hurtsboro, and Vincent (Alaina) Sykes, Grand Prairie, Texas; two brothers: Jimmy (Julia) Thomas and Theodis (Alice) Thomas, both of Hurtsboro; one sister, Izella (David) Harris, Hurtsboro; eight grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
